- Jazz Ensemble is primarily a performance ensemble designed to further develop the techniques and skills of the individual musician, as well as the skills and techniques required for ensemble performance, through the performance of high level literature.
- The Bearcat Marching Band performs at numerous public events, competitions, and parades. Because Marching Band requires additional time, students receive an additional 2.5 credits. Members are expected and required to attend all practices and performances.
- This instrumental group is comprised of instruments from the percussion family. Students will learn the playing techniques of many of
the percussion instruments as well as study and research the historical and cultural background of the percussion family. The
Percussion Ensemble will perform at three concerts and will compete in the District Music Contest in April. Percussion Ensemble
members are automatically members of the Marching Band. Students must register for Marching Band (#600) when
registering for Percussion Ensemble or have instructor permission if not in Marching Band. - Teacher: Rick Mitchell
- This instrumental group performs a variety of advanced symphonic band arrangements with an emphasis on quality literature. Further focus is placed on the development of the individual musician by means of Music Theory, Music History, and technical development exercises.
- Designed to offer the serious student an opportunity to become familiar with theory as it is taught in many colleges and universities. Includes basic fundamentals in melodic, harmonic and rhythmic structure, ear training, melodic, rhythmic and harmonic dictation, chord spelling, structure, resolutions, inversions and labeling, chord progressions, voice leading, non-harmonic tones and basic four-part composition.
